アートギャラリーin LA /Art galleries in Los Angeles

LAは、ハリウッドや音楽などエンターテイメントが盛んで、とてもクリエイティブな街。

建物の外壁に描かれたグラフィティに出会うことも多く、その創造性を肌で感じることができます。

なかでもアートな雰囲気が目立ってきたのが、ダウンタウンのリトル東京に隣接する アートディストリクト。倉庫街だった場所が再開発され、ここ数年で、おしゃれな人が集まる、新しい賑わいを見せています。

クリエイティブなLAを体感したい方は、アートギャラリー巡りもとてもおすすめです。

日本とは違い、LAでは広いスペースで、美術館のようなクオリティの展示を無料で鑑賞できることもしばしば。現代アートやインテリアが好きな人は、きっと楽しめるはず！

①PACE　

麻布台ヒルズにも入っている PACE のLAギャラリーは、蔦に覆われた建物が印象的。

インターホンを押して中に入るという特別感があって、作品を見る前からワクワクさせてくれる場所です。

②David Zwirner

David Zwirnerは、世界の現代アートシーンで最も影響力のある “メガギャラリー” のひとつ。l Aのアートギャラリーでは、ポップで大胆な作品を展示している印象。自然光が入る大きな真っ白な空間自体も、気持ちが圧倒されます。

③The Brick

コンテンポラリーアートを通じて、社会的・文化的な問いを投げかけるスペース。

私が訪れたときも、展示されていた作品になぜか強く引き寄せられて、何周もしてしまいました。

その様子が気になったのか、アーティストさんが覆面姿で声をかけてくれて、作品について話すことができたんです。後でインスタで調べたら、その声をかけてくれた人が実はアーティスト本人で、彼女からも「普段は声をかけないけど、あなたが気になっちゃって」とメッセージが届いて、素敵な交流になりました。

他にもたくさんギャラリーはありますが、今回は “LAらしさ” を感じられる3つを紹介しました。

LA is a city full of creativity, shaped by Hollywood, music, and the energy of the entertainment world.Even just walking around, you’ll often come across buildings covered in graffiti—another sign of the city’s artistic pulse.

One of the most art-driven areas is the Arts District, right next to Little Tokyo in Downtown LA.What used to be an industrial warehouse zone has been transformed into a lively neighborhood filled with new life and creativity.

Of course, there are plenty of other places to enjoy art throughout the city.

If you want to experience LA’s creative side, I highly recommend exploring its art galleries.Unlike in Japan, many galleries here offer spacious, museum-like exhibitions that you can enjoy for free.If you love contemporary art or interior design, you’ll definitely have fun discovering them.

1. PEACE

PEACE, which also has a location in Azabudai Hills in Tokyo, has a beautiful LA gallery hidden inside a building covered in ivy.You have to ring the intercom to enter, which adds a sense of exclusivity and excitement even before you see the artworks.

2. David Zwirner

David Zwirner is one of the most influential “mega galleries” in the contemporary art world.Their LA shows often feature bold, colorful, and visually striking works.The massive white space filled with natural light is impressive on its own.

3. The Brick

The Brick is a space that explores social and cultural questions through contemporary art.When I visited, I felt an unexpected emotional pull toward the exhibition and found myself circling the space several times.

Apparently I caught someone’s attention—one of the artists, who approached me wearing a mask, started a conversation.Later, when I was looking up the gallery on Instagram, I realized that the person who spoke to me was actually the exhibiting artist herself.She also messaged me afterward, saying she normally doesn’t approach visitors but felt compelled to talk to me.It turned into a really special encounter.

There are many more galleries around LA, but these three spots capture the essence of the city’s creative spirit.Near David Zwirner and The Brick, you'll also find stylish interior shops and several other galleries, making it a great area to wander and explore.
